Welcome!

The Cluster Munition Coalition welcomes the 3 August announcement by South Sudan that it has joined the Convention on Cluster Munitions! In depositing its instrument of accession, the country becomes the 112th State Party to the convention. The announcement comes just one month before States meet in Geneva, Switzerland to assess treaty progress and address challenges including instances of new use.

“By banning cluster bombs, South Sudan is taking an important step to strengthen international peace and security,” said Mary Wareham, acting director at Human Rights Watch which chairs the Cluster Munition Coalition. “Other countries should follow South Sudan’s example because preventing new use of cluster munitions is a humanitarian and human rights imperative.”
