Global Call to Action Ahead of the Mine Ban Treaty 5th Review Conference

The International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) is gearing up globally ahead of the 5th Review Conference (5RC) of the Mine Ban Treaty, to take place 25-29 November, 2024, in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Under the slogan "Eradicate Landmines, Empower Lives: No excuses, No exceptions, No delays”, the ICBL and its members are calling on states and partners worldwide to redouble their efforts in implementing and universalizing the treaty in this Review Conference year.

Eradicate Landmines, Empower Lives: No excuses, No exceptions, No delays!

This slogan echoes the original motto of the campaign during the 1997 treaty negotiations, when the ICBL was calling for a comprehensive ban with “No Exceptions, No Reservations, No Loopholes." This slogan emphasized the campaign's uncompromising stance on the need for a treaty that completely banned landmines without any allowances or weaknesses that could undermine its effectiveness.

At the 5th Review Conference in Siem Reap, the ICBL calls for:
- Unequivocal condemnation of all use of antipersonnel mines by anyone, under any circumstances;
- Announcements of significant achievements and future plans in the treaty implementation and universalization;
- Genuine recommitment and stepping up until the job is finished;
- High-level participation and meaningful involvement of survivors and people with disabilities

ICBL campaigners across the globe have been engaging with their governments to redouble efforts and resources towards achieving a a mine-free world in years, not decades.
